American Idol

American Idol has not only become a popular reality based program, it is one of only three shows in televison history to to have a Nielsen rating of #1 for five consecutive seasons. With stars like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood,  Kellie Pickler, and Adam Lambert having launched their careers on the show, people continually tune in to see who the next star will be. 

One of the other things that has made American Idol a huge success are the regular celebrity performances that treats viewers to the likes of classic favorites like Heart or current stars like Fergie. Add to that some truly painful or simply bizarre performances that are too weird to believe but impossible to stop watching and you have a winning formula for television programming.
